Khanti Healing Circle

“When the heart weeps for what is lost, the soul rejoices for what is found.” Sufi Proverb

This 8 week series begins on Tuesday, September 20th and ends November 15th.  (2011)

It meets from 1 to 3 PM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage, WI

Cost:  $80 (introductory rate)

According to Wikipedia, khanti (Pāli) is patience, forbearance and forgiveness. It is one of the Buddhist practices of perfection.

“It is the practice of exercising patience toward behavior or situations that might not necessarily deserve it (illness) and is seen as a conscious choice to actively give patience as if a gift, rather than being in a state of oppression in which one feels obligated to act in such a way (victim to).”

I was introduced to this concept by Toni Bernhard, in her book, How to Be Sick; A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers. Bernhard describes khanti as patient endurance…. our ability to experience hardship with serenity and without giving up.

A khanti healing circle is NOT a support group though its members offer support to one another. Illness, in the context of this circle, is viewed as a vehicle for spiritual growth rather than as a cross to bear. Deepak Chopra defines healing as “remembering our wholeness.” I like to think of the khanti healing circle as an empowerment circle where members learn and share resources and practices that are life renewing.

The khanti healing circle will meet weekly for eight weeks. You will:

  • Learn and engage in practices that support health and wellness.
  • Enjoy the support of others and the exchange of ideas in a safe environment.
  • Discover your own healing process and define your healing success.
  • Be introduced to a wide variety of healing tools and strategies.

Topics covered will include and are not limited to:

  • Telling your story and naming it
  • Releasing your story…. you are more than your story
  • Illness as the teacher
  • Meeting your inner healer

    • Mindfulness/Presence
